Different Art Mediums

Art is an inclusive word. Art is seen everywhere, and a myriad of people in all sorts of industries consider themselves artists.

The classic art mediums – music, painting, sculpture and photography – are found in museums or galleries and are heard in great auditoriums. Nowadays many other art forms are giving these traditional art mediums a run for their money. Film, fashion and culinary arts are quickly gaining more respect in the world of art.

Film has long been regarded as highly entertaining, but most would agree for a film to be considered art it must withstand heavy scrutiny. Even movies which have received the coveted Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' highest award – the Oscar – are not considered on par with Beethoven's 9th Symphony. But the rare film bestowed with the honor of making its way in the “classic film” genre certainly deserves it.

Even reality television has opened its doors to art. New shows are creating buzz about fashion designers and the process going into making those one-of-a-kind dresses, or a chef striving to create the perfect meal for your palette. These forms of art are so endearing because they are easy to associate with. Everyone eats and wears clothes, so to see its creation is particularly fascinating.

With modern technology, many forms of art are popping up into mainstream culture. The fast-paced world of computers is at the fore-front, allowing these new art forms freedom. Computer graphics and design, instead of having their own classes and programs at schools, now have their own schools.

Computers even spill over into the photography world. Digital cameras are ever-increasing in popularity, making it even easier to create a perfect shot thanks to digital imaging software, which allows users to instantly touch-up photographs.

Luckily the art world is vast. Room is available for every medium and its respective following.
